YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown State will participate in the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer in early November.
The organizers announced the 16-team field along with the four opening-round sites for the event on Monday.
The hosts of the four Regional Rounds are Maryland, Michigan State, St. John's and Texas, which will take place Nov. 8-12. The other participating schools are Alcorn State, Brown, Central Michigan, Chicago State, Hampton, Loyola (Md.), Navy, New Orleans, North Florida, St. Bonaventure, Vermont and YSU.
Match-ups, specific dates and a complete bracket will be announced later.

'Hounds' Christianplayer of the week
YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown SteelHounds forward Jeff Christian was named player of the week for the third time this season by the Central Hockey League.
Christian scored three goals and had two assists in a pair of games last week.
Earlier last week, Christian was named one of the six finalists for the CHL's Most Valuable Player award.
Youth hockey
BOARDMAN -- The second Lil' Phantoms Tournament wrapped up at The Ice Zone on Sunday.
In the championship game, the Leafs claimed the Phantom Cup with a 3-2 win over the Blue Jackets.
Phillip Monrean scored twice, including the game winner, and Jimmy Boniface scored once for the Leafs. Assists went to Mark Cooper (2), David Cooper and P.J. Denney.
Max Pikunas had both goals for the Blue Jackets, with an assist going to Rami Saker.
In the consolation game, the Penguins came from behind to beat the regular season champion Red Wings 3-2.
Stan Miketa and Kevin McWreath paced the Pens with a goal and assist each, and Tyler Ausnehmer netted the game winner. Other Penguin assists went to Danny Rosati and Jared Vanasdale.
In the semifinals, the Leafs defeated the Penguins, 7-4, and the Blue Jackets defeated the Red Wings, 3-1.
Lordstown track
COLUMBUS -- Lordstown High's Ashley Kellar finished first in the high jump with a school- and meet-record leap of 5 feet, 3 inches in the Division III portion of Saturday's Ohio Indoor Classic at Ohio State.
Kellar was also part of the fourth-place 4x400-meter relay (4:33.5), along with Kayla Ellks, Jessica Reinke and Hollie Bailey.
Ellks finished third in the 200 (27.8) and fifth in the long jump (14-7), Reinke was seventh in the 400 (1:05.6),
Ashley Gibbs placed seventh in the high jump (4-6) and the 4x800 relay of Reinke, Bailey, Ashlee Wolfgang and Rachel Minor placed fourth (11:27.2). On the boys side, Seth Mansell placed first in the 800 (2:07.2) and joined A.J. Keele, Dustin Bowman and Jeremy Ratell to help Lordstown place third with a time of 3:45.5. Ryan Pal finished second in the high jump (5-11) and Keeley placed fourth in long jump (19-10).

*GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Thiel senior catcher Kinsey Henderson (East Liverpool) was named Presidents' Athletic Conference hitter of the week for baseball.
Henderson helped lead the Tomcats (5-3) at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Fort Myers, Fla. In eight games he batted .417 with two home runs, four doubles, eight runs scored and nine RBIs.
*NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Westminster sophomore Jessica Cooper (New Castle) placed 13th in the high jump (5 feet, 3 1/4 inches) at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track championship at Northfield, Minn.

BOARDMAN -- Athletes from the Eastern Ohio Wrestling League won eight matches in the Mahoning Valley Coaches Association Wrestling Challenge Monday at Boardman High School.
The EOWL champs took on the champions from the Portage Trail Conference.
Two-time Division I state champion Tony Jameson of Fitch decisioned Issac Dukes of Ravenna 17-1 in the 125-pound match.
Other EOWL winners were Kyle Leek of Howland, 112; Steve Wall of Howland, 119; Nick Bodnar of Fitch, 140; Brian Weidenthal of Fitch, 145; Matt Kuti of Fitch, 189; Matt Walker of Alliance, 215, and Bob Randall of Girard, 275.

Chaney retires
PHILADELPHIA -- Temple basketball coach John Chaney retired Monday.
A Hall of Famer, Chaney guided Temple to five NCAA regional finals and 17 NCAA tournament appearances in 24 seasons at Temple.
Chaney has 741 wins as a college coach, including a 516-252 record at Temple, and has won six Atlantic 10 titles. He was twice named national coach of the year and is a five-time Atlantic 10 coach of the year.
