CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -- Austin Peay hit five home runs and had four pitchers combine to throw a four-hitter in an 11-2 victory over Youngstown State on Sunday afternoon at Raymond C. Hand Park.
Austin Peay improved to 10-4 on the season and took two games out of three from YSU, which fell to 1-8.
Erich Diedrich hit a two-run homer in the top of the eighth for his second of the year for YSU's only runs.
APSU freshman David Vicini allowed one hit, walked four and struck out five in six innings to pick up the win. Chuck Schiffhauer allowed seven runs in four innings of work in his first career start for YSU.
Jake Lane hit three home runs and drove in seven runs for Austin Peay, which scored four runs in the first, three in the third and four in the seventh.
The Penguins will continue their spring break trip with a three-game series at Morehead State on Tuesday.
Saturday, Youngstown State scored all of its runs in the first three innings and held onto an early lead for the first time this season in game two of a doubleheader at Austin Peay.
Starter Eric Shaffer allowed four runs on seven hits and struck out five in six innings to lead YSU to a 6-4 win. Brent Parks had two hits and two RBIs while Erich Diedrich, Mike Turjanica and Josh Page also had two hits apiece.
Austin Peay took the first game 11-9 thanks to a five-run eighth inning.
In game two, the Penguins scored a run in the first, three in the second and two in the third to go up 6-3 after three innings.
Charles Schultz got the scoring going in the first with a solo blast to center for his first homer of the season. After the Governors took their only lead of the game with two runs in the bottom of the first, an RBI groundout from Page and a two-run double from Parks put YSU up 4-2.
Dustin Thomas then scored on a Turjanica RBI single and J.D. Hannan scored on a double steal in the third to make the score 6-3.
APSU made a push late as Brett Luther hit a solo homer in the fourth and the Governors had runners on the corners with one out in the fifth, but Shaffer picked off Matt Ledbetter on third and got Jacob Crass to hit into a fielder's choice to end the inning and preserve the lead.
Sophomore Ryan Sellman came on in the seventh to induce two fly outs and a strike out to pick up the save after Shaffer walked the leadoff hitter.
In game one, YSU overcame deficits of 3-0 and 5-3 to lead twice before Austin Peay's five-run surge in the eighth.
After APSU plated three runs on five hits in the first, the Penguins tied the score in the top of the second when Diedrich scored on a balk and Thomas hit a two-run homer to right. A run in the fourth and another in the sixth put the Governors up 5-3, but a two-run single from Justin Banks and a Diedrich RBI single in the seventh put YSU up 6-5. APSU then plated five runs before recording an out in the bottom of the eighth to make the score 11-7.
The Penguins scored twice in the ninth for the final tally.
Josh Wells was tabbed with the loss after being charged with three of the five runs in the eighth. Corey Gunter earned the win for Peay despite allowing three runs on six hits in two innings.

YOUNGSTOWN -- Tickets for the Division III girls basketball state semifinal game between Ursuline and Sugarcreek Garaway are available at Ursuline High School. The game will be played Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Value City Arena at Ohio State University's Schottenstein Center in Columbus. MASSILLON -- McDonald sophomore Emily Dolsak scored the Blue Devils' first points in Saturday's Division IV tournament loss to East Canton. A story in Sunday's edition incorrectly credited Emily's sister Amy, a senior, with the basket. Emily fouled out in the fourth quarter and finished with nine points. Amy finished her varsity career with four points.

WARREN -- Boxer Zack Page (10-5) will fight Columbus heavyweight Chad Van Sickle (20-3-2, 12 knockouts) Saturday at the Lausche Building on the Ohio State Fairgrounds.
Sometimes a losing fight can make a difference in a boxer's career. On Feb. 23, Page lost to undefeated Mike Marrone (13-0, 11 KOs) in Verona, N.Y. In an early round, Page unloaded a solid right cross and floored Marrone for a nine count. Now a lot of guys want to fight him and there a lot of guys with good records who do not want anything to do with him.
"I took the Marrone fight on short notice and wasn't in the best condition for it," Page said. "I have been running at Mollenkopf Stadium and I am in very good shape."
Chuck Bayley, Page's manager, said, "This can be a comeback win for Zack who is beyond having soft fights.
"We wanted this fight a year ago and now we have it with both fighters coming off losses and both needing wins," Bayley said.
