SteelHounds fall to RiverKings in final road game



SOUTHHAVEN, Miss. -- The Youngstown SteelHounds fell behind early at the DeSoto Civic Center Saturday night and lost to the Memphis RiverKings, 5-1, in their final road game of the season.
The win was the eighth for Memphis (21-31-4) in nine games with the SteelHounds (21-33-5).
Jeff Christian scored his 52nd goal of the season for Youngstown.
Travis Banga had a goal and two assists for Memphis, which pulled within a point of the SteelHounds for second place in the Northeast Division.
Memphis (21-31-4) scored three goals in the first period and it didn't take the RiverKings long to add to their lead in the second period.
Plett scored his second of the season after Youngstown goalie David St. Germain had made a great save.
The SteelHounds finally got on the board with a powerplay goal at the 8:55 mark with Christian being assisted by Chris Richards and Matt Hanson.
The assist by Richards extended his league-high point streak to 19 straight games (4-26-30).
The RiverKings scored the only goal of the third period.
The SteelHounds begin a five-game homestand that will take them through the end of the season beginning Friday against the Colorado Eagles at the Chevrolet Centre at 7:05 p.m.
