HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS Patrick Henry advances to state
Berlin Hiland is making its third straight state tournament appearance.
ELIDA -- Jenna Inselmann scored 14 points to lead the Hamler Patrick Henry girls basketball team to a 52-45 win in a Division IV regional final Saturday night.
The Patriots (25-0) started the game on an 11-0 run and forced six Holgate (20-5) turnovers in the first four minutes. Holgate rallied to pull to 23-18 at the half, but Patrick Henry pushed the lead to 37-26 at the end of three quarters and led by no fewer than five points in the fourth.
Beth Giesege led Holgate with 15 points and Liza Clady had 14. Alison Meyer scored 13 points for Patrick Henry and Stacie Coressel added 11.
Ft. Loramie 36, Jackson Center 19
VANDALIA -- Courtney Reed scored 10 points and shut down Jackson Center's Catie Halberstadt to lead Fort Loramie in another regional final.
Halberstadt came in averaging 16 points per game, but Reed held her to just six points as Fort Loramie (24-2) held the Tigers (21-5) to just eight field goals and forced 18 turnovers.
Fort Loramie jumped to a 12-5 lead after the first quarter and a 21-9 lead at halftime as Jackson Center turned the ball over 13 times in the first half.
Kristi Platfoot led Jackson Center with seven points.
Berlin Hiland 40, Cols. Africentric 36
PICKERINGTON -- Lindsay Stuckey scored 13 points to lead defending state champion Berlin Hiland to a win over Columbus Africentric in another regional final.
A layup by Jenna Stutzman gave Hiland (24-2) a 28-17 lead at the end of the third quarter.
The Nubians (25-1) responded with a 13-4 run to pull to 32-30 with 4:15 left, but Lydia Miller scored eight straight points to put it away.
The Hawks beat Africentric in the regional final for the second straight year and advanced to their third straight state tournament.
Hiland held Africentric to 13-for-56 shooting from the field and 1-for-17 shooting on 3-pointers.
Shadai Morrison-Fountain led Africentric with 12 points and Tyeasha Moss had 11.
Miller and Stutzman each scored 10 points for Hiland.
