Garage, 2 cars damaged
BOARDMAN -- Two cars were heavily damaged in an early-morning garage fire. Firefighters said they do not believe the fire at the unattached garage owned by Brad Pugh at 4005 Sylvia Lane is suspicious but could not say the cause of the Sunday fire. Firefighters said there was about $18,000 worth of damage to the garage. Two cars inside, a 1989 Chevrolet Camaro and a 2002 Jeep Liberty, were valued at about $19,500, firefighters estimated.
Pumping reminders
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Mahoning County District Board of Health will soon mail pumping reminders to 677 Green Township residents with septic systems.
Septic systems should be pumped at various intervals depending on household size and water usage. A four-person household with a 1,000-gallon septic tank should have its septic system tank pumped every three years.
Homeowners receive pumping interval recommendations and a list of licensed pumpers with their reminder letter. Pumpers notify the health board when they pump a septic tank, and the board uses the information to keep track of when a septic system was last pumped.
The board reminder has prompted thousands of county homeowners to do preventive maintenance on their septic systems since the program began in 1997. For more information, see the Web site at www.mahoning-health.org.
