AUSTINTOWN Man is accused of raiding refrigerator

AUSTINTOWN -- A man faces burglary and other charges after he was caught helping himself to the contents of a refrigerator at a South Inglewood Avenue house, a police report says.
Police arrested Ken E. Lucas, 26, of Viola Avenue, Hubbard, at 2:30 a.m. Sunday after the homeowner called police to report he'd heard his back door open and discovered a man in his kitchen trying to steal food.
The man ran away after the homeowner confronted him. Police searched for him but could not find him at first.
A short time later, police spotted a man fitting the burglar's description at a pay phone in the lot at General Insurance Agency on Mahoning Avenue. Police identified him as Lucas and questioned him, the report said.
Lucas acknowledged being on South Inglewood, but he said he did not enter any houses, the report said.
He told police he was hungry and wanted a ride to the bus station "to get the hell out of this town."
Knife, threats
Police patted him down and found a steak knife in his pants pocket, the report said. Police said he was read his rights and became belligerent, threatening officers' lives.
The South Inglewood homeowner was brought to the scene and identified Lucas as the burglar.
Lucas was taken to the police station and continued to display violent tendencies and make threats, the report said.
He is charged with burglary, carrying a concealed weapon and two counts of aggravated menacing. He appeared in Mahoning County Court here for arraignment Monday, and a preliminary hearing was set for Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. His bond is $25,000. No information was available from the court or the Mahoning County Jail on whether he was able to post bond.
