Arraigned in slaying
YOUNGSTOWN -- Jason Carter, 29, of Carroll Street was arraigned in municipal court on a murder charge in the Jan. 1 death of Jamie White, 40, of Boardman. On Monday, Judge Elizabeth A. Kobly set bond at $1 million and a preliminary hearing for March 20. Carter was arrested Friday. White's body was found Jan. 1 under the bridge on Salt Springs Road and Bridge Street. The victim had blood on her neck, chin and chest.
Sentencing of Jenkins
WARREN -- The sentencing for David Jenkins, convicted last week of strangling his wife, Deana, in their Clearwater Street Northwest home May 20, 2004, will be at 11 a.m. Monday before Judge Peter Kontos in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court. A jury found Jenkins guilty Friday. He faces 15 years to life in prison. Jenkins is in the county jail awaiting sentencing.
Kinship program event
WARREN -- A community meeting will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Baptist Church, 235 Highland Ave., to give out information on the Kinship Permanency Program, which is federally funded and designed to support relatives who have assumed custody of their kin. The meeting is sponsored by the Trumbull County Children's Services Board, Alliance Community Outreach Program Center and Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance.
Waste workshop set
WARREN -- The Geauga Trumbull Solid Waste District and Trumbull Soil and Water Conservation District will have a restricted household waste workshop from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at the SWD facility, 5138 Enterprise Blvd. The workshop is free and will cover what waste the average household produces and ways to manage that waste.
Fire damages business
BOARDMAN -- Fire caused about $5,000 damage at a Southern Boulevard business. Firefighters were called to Youngstown Hard Chrome Plating and Grinding Inc. about 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Firefighters said a piece of machinery at the plant overheated. No one was hurt.
Pizzeria break-ins
BOARDMAN -- Police are investigating two break-ins at township pizzerias. A worker at Mama Colonna's Pizza, Market Street, told police that he arrived to open the business about 11 a.m. Friday and found $1,200 missing from the business. A rear door had been pried open. That same day, an employee at Ianazone's Pizza, West Boulevard, got to work and found a dough mixer, a box of pepperoni, two boxes of cheese and cash from the register had been taken.
Deliveryman robbed
LISBON -- Two men have pleaded guilty to robbing a pizza deliveryman in Salem on Nov. 16, 2005. Joshua M. Courtney, 20, of Jimtown Road, East Palestine, pleaded guilty Monday in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court. His brother, Nathan Q. Courtney, 18, of West Fourth St., Salem, recently pleaded guilty. Each man faces up to eight years in prison. The men were accused of ordering a pizza delivered to a home in the 200 block of West 13th Street. The owner of the house wasn't home. The driver, a Beloit man, pulled into a driveway looking for the address. A man gestured to him from the nearby house. Brewster followed him to the back of the house, where he was assaulted. He suffered facial fractures and was robbed of about $50. A 16-year-old was charged in county juvenile court. Information on his case wasn't available.
DUI, drug charges
BOARDMAN -- Two Youngstown residents are expected in Mahoning County Court this morning to face charges stemming from a traffic stop on South Avenue. The driver, Tracie Hawse, 35, of Summer Street, is charged with driving under the influence. Her passenger, Calvin Kelly, 34, also of Summer Street, is charged with carrying a concealed weapon, illegal possession of a weapon, cocaine possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.
