VILLA MARIA, Pa. -- Dr. Linda Spanos will discuss the safe use of natural remedies for common health problems in women, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. March 23 at Villa Maria Community Center. She will discuss home remedies, herbs and supplements as complements to medical care.
Dr. Spanos, who has a bachelor's degree in biochemistry and a doctorate in biomedical science and pharmacology, is a provider of nutritional and pain management counseling and homeopathic care for patients with chronic health concerns.

School district sued
LISBON -- A Salem couple has filed a lawsuit against the Beaver Local School District and one of its bus drivers over a March 4, 2004, traffic accident.
Thomas R. Welsh and his wife, Wendy, seek in excess of $25,000 in damages for his unspecified injuries. The case was filed recently in Columbiana County Common Please Court.
The lawsuit claims that bus driver Karen S. Meek of Negley was negligent during the mishap at the intersection of County Road 417 and U.S. Route 30 in Madison Township.
Warren schools project
WARREN -- The public is invited to attend a community information meeting on the new city schools construction project from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the auditorium of East Middle School, 1470 South St. S.E. The district is engaged in a $153 million project to replace 13 schools with five new ones.
Great American Cleanup
WARREN -- The Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District will participate in the annual Keep America Beautiful Great American Cleanup beginning April 1. School and community groups are invited to register their planned cleanup activities and receive free trash bags and flower seed packets by calling (800) 707-2673.
Sobriety checkpoint
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Pennsylvania State Police will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint within Lawrence County this week. This checkpoint is part of the governor's initiative to reduce crashes, prevent injuries and save lives. Locations are determined through crash data collected by the state police. The intention is to focus on areas with high numbers of DUI-related crashes.
First aid and CPR class
SHARON, Pa. -- The Mercer County Red Cross is sponsoring a Community First Aid and CPR class at its South Oakland Street office. The class will be from 6 to 10 p.m. Tuesday and from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 6 to 9 p.m. March 21. The class will cover adult, child and infant CPR in addition to first aid.
