Garaway survives in two OTs

LANCASTER -- Molly Hershberger scored 12 points and made two key free throws late in the second overtime as Sugarcreek Garaway beat Ironton 47-42 Saturday to advance to the girls Division III state tournament.
Garaway (24-2) took a 42-39 lead with three minutes to play, but Jessica Waddle made a 3-pointer to tie it with 2:46 to play. In the last 1:05, Garaway made five free throws, two of them by Hershberger.
Garaway took an eight-point lead late in regulation, but Ironton (23-3) rallied to tie it on a 3-pointer by Mandi Boykin with 2:46 to play. Garaway worked the clock to take the last shot, but turned the ball over with nine seconds left. Ironton turned it over with two seconds left.
Waddle led Ironton with 20 points and Boykin added 12. Molly Hershberger's sister Erica Hershberger and Carol Stingel each scored 11 for Garaway and Laura Bardall had 10.
Castalia Margaretta 38,Coldwater 33
LEXINGTON -- Micki Kuns scored 13 points and made seven free throws in the last 47 seconds as Castalia Margaretta beat Coldwater in Div. III.
Kuns made a 3-pointer to give Margaretta (23-3) a 31-28 lead with 3:54 to play. Coldwater (18-6) cut it to 31-30 on a basket by Tasha Stuckey, but Kuns made four free throws before Jessica Bettinger made a 3-pointer with 14 seconds to play to pull Coldwater to 35-33. Kuns, the Northwest District Division III player of the year, made three more free throws to close it out.
Cayla Keegan had 13 points for Margaretta. Kendra Robbins led Coldwater with 13 points and eight rebounds.
Plain City Jonathan Alder 45,Versailles 41
VANDALIA -- Lauren Prochaska scored 27 points to lead Plain City Jonathan Alder over Versailles in a Div. III regional final.
With Versailles (20-6) up 28-22 with 3:10 to play in the third quarter, Kelsey Moore hit a 3-pointer to pull Jonathan Alder (24-2) to 28-25. Prochaska then had a steal, a layup, another steal, another layup and a free throw to give the Pioneers a 30-22 lead with 2:22 in the third. Jonathan Alder did not trail again.
Prochaska, the Central District Division III player of the year, made 13 of 14 free throws. No other Jonathan Alder player had more than six points.
Justine Raterman scored 15 points to lead Versailles.
Solon 52, Amherst Steele 47
NORWALK -- Kourtney Brown scored 24 points to lead Solon to a over Amherst Steele in a Div. I regional final.
Dana Banda capped a Solon rally from 11 points down at the start of the fourth quarter with a layup to make it 48-47 with 54 seconds left. Julie Taylor made two free throws with 11 seconds left to clinch it.
Steele (23-2) outscored Solon (22-3) 15-4 in the third quarter to take a 42-31 lead, but the Comets outscored Steele 21-5 in the fourth.
Erin Wisner added 10 points for Solon. Audra Mihalic led Steele with 17 points.
Cin. Mt. Notre Dame 61,Cin. Oak Hills 42
DAYTON -- Lee Stephens scored 19 points as Cincinnati Mount Notre Dame beat Cincinnati Oak Hills and advanced to the Div. I state semifinals for the third year in a row.
Oak Hills (23-3) was able to keep it close in the first half, but could get no closer than four after pulling to 17-13 in the second quarter.
Mount Notre Dame (23-3) slowly pulled away to a 29-19 lead and back-to-back 3-pointers by Stephens made it 35-19 late in the third quarter.
Jessica Pachko led Oak Hills with 20 points.
Channing Hillman and Katie Paganelli each had 12 points for Mount Notre Dame.
