All-Star meet set Monday at Boardman



Wrestling champions from two conferences will square off in 14 matches.
BOARDMAN -- The champions of the Eastern Ohio Wrestling League will meet the champions of the Portage Trail Conference Monday at Boardman High gym starting at 7 p.m. in the first Mahoning Valley Coaches Association Wrestling All-Star Meet team.
Dean Conley, Canfield High's wrestling coach who is serving as director of the meet, said that 14 weight classes will contested. Tickets will be available at the door. The doors will open at 6 p.m.
Two of the top area wrestlers competing will be Tony Jameson (125) and Nick Bodnar (140), sophomore and senior respectively, from Austintown Fitch.
Jameson already has won two state championships while Bodnar is a four-time state qualifier who placed third this year and sixth the year before.

The rest of the lineup for the EOWL All-Stars consists of: 103 -- Tony Cardiero, freshman from Girard); 112 -- Brad Benedict, sophomore, Canfield); 119 -- Steve Wall, senior, Howland; 130 -- Derik Caudill, senior, Beaver Local; 135 -- Anthony Wills, junior, Boardman; 145 -- Brad Weidenthal, junior, Fitch; 152 -- Ross Tice, junior, Brookfield; 160 -- J.J. Pankewicz, junior, Fitch; 171 -- Dan Dunn, junior, Beaver Local; 189 -- Matt Kuti, junior, Fitch; 215 -- Matt Walker, junior, Alliance; 275 -- Bob Randall, senior, Girard.
The EOWL also recently announced its wrestlers and coaches of the year in Divisions I, II and III.
Jameson, Bodnar and junior Justin Powell (215) of Boardman were named wrestlers of the year in Div. I, while Andy Lamancusa (145) and Nathan Sharp (275), both from West Branch and both state champs this year, were selected in Div. II.
Tristin Thompson (119) of Brookfield and Joe Skaggs (135 ) of Jackson-Milton were picked in Div. III.
The coaches of the year are Brian Earich (Howland), Mike Helm (West Branch) and Jim Cardiero (Girard).
