Science Day contest to focus on posters
YOUNGSTOWN -- Hundreds of young scientists from Mahoning, Trumbull, Columbiana and Ashtabula counties will participate Saturday in the annual Lake-to-River Science Day at Youngstown State University.
The event will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Beeghly Center, and participants will present their work as posters only. Apparatus and demonstration as part of their presentations won't be permitted. They must make a presentation of and discuss the work done, and logbooks, photographs, graphs, charts, etc. are an expected part of the poster presentation.
Lake-to-River Science Day is one of 16 regional science fairs in Ohio that are sanctioned by the Ohio Academy of Science, and Science Day is an annual event sponsored by Youngstown State University, regional businesses and civic organizations.
Science Day has attracted between 500 and 600 science research project entries from public, private and parochial pupils in grades five through 12 in the past.
Pupils compete for a wide variety of prizes and recognition of accomplishment and get to experience science and discovery firsthand. Contestants in grades seven through 12 whose projects are judged "superior" may be eligible for competition at State Science Day to be May 6 at Ohio State University in Columbus.
