YOUNGSTOWN After high-speed chase, police shoot man who refuses to leave stolen car

YOUNGSTOWN -- Police shot a suspect in the buttock after a chase early Sunday in which two suspects would not leave a stolen vehicle.
Aundre Perez, 18, of Park Heights Avenue, was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center after the shooting. Another man in the vehicle, Luis Perez, complained of chest pains and was also transported to the hospital.
Police said they first observed the vehicle being driven by Aundre Perez in the driveway of a known drug house on Hine Street.
Officers followed the vehicle, which would not stop when officers activated their lights and siren. After a high-speed chase, the car hit a curb, blowing out a tire and disabling the car.
Officers ordered the occupants out of the car, but they didn't respond. Officers observed the driver moving left and right inside the car and then saw the driver with a dark object in his right hand, which appeared through the tinted windows to be a gun.
Officer William Ward fired his service revolver toward the suspect, hitting him in the right buttock. Still the suspect did not get out of the car and was removed by Ward after he smashed the car window with his flashlight.
The other suspect was removed after breaking out that window, a police report states.
Other officers were called to the scene and collected a shoulder holster from the vehicle. Officers think the shoulder holster not containing a firearm was the dark object they saw in the suspect's hand.
Aundre Perez was charged with operating a motor vehicle without a valid license, receiving stolen property and failure to comply with the order of an officer and traffic offenses.
Luis Perez was charged with failure to comply with the orders of an officer.
