Woman files lawsuit over exploding can
LISBON -- A Salineville woman has filed a lawsuit claiming she was injured by an exploding can of foam insulation. The lawsuit filed Thursday in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court by Dorothy Lovett of Hazel Run Road seeks more than $25,000 in damages from Dow Chemical Co. in Cleveland. Lovett said she was using the foam properly July 31, 2005, when the explosion caused injuries to her skin and other, unspecified parts of her body.
Lakeview school board
CORTLAND -- Lakeview Board of Education will meet in executive session at 5 p.m. Monday to conduct preliminary talks to prepare for labor negotiations with its employees. The contract with the 135-member Lakeview Teachers Association expires Aug. 31 and the contract with the 66 members of the Lakeview School Support Association expires June 30. Both groups are associated with the Ohio Education Association.
Class will help trainweather spotters
CHAMPION -- The Trumbull County Office of Homeland Security will sponsor a SkyWarn training class at the Kent State University Trumbull Campus auditorium at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. SkyWarn is a volunteer organization of weather spotters. Many of the area's ham radio operators are also qualified as National Weather Service SkyWarn volunteers.
SkyWarn volunteers give National Weather Service officials valuable information they would not have otherwise. The class is open to all ages and conducted by the NWS. It's free, and registration is not necessary.
Health screenings
WARREN -- Screenings for risk of stroke, abdominal aortic aneurysms, peripheral arterial disease and osteoporosis will be offered from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday at St. Pius X Parish social hall, 1401 Moncrest Drive N.W. Call Life Line Screening of Cleveland at (800) 710-1913 for the required preregistration. The combined fee for all four screenings is $129, and credit cards may be used when registering by telephone.
