Three Titans get All-PAC honors for basketball
Mark DeMonaco, a 5-foot-8 senior guard for the Westminster College men's basketball team was selected on the All-Presidents' Conference first team. It was the third straight year the sharpshooter was accorded the honors.
Two other Titans were chosen to the All-PAC teams. Craig Hannon, a 6-3 sophomore guard, was named to the second team, while Greg Rosatelli, a 5-10 junior guard, was named honorable mention. Last year Hannon was an honorable mention selection. DeMonaco is from New Castle, Hannon from Union High and Rosatelli from Hopewell.
Three other players from area colleges were named to the PAC teams. Grove City's Shawn Carr, a 6-1 sophomore guard from Mohawk High, was named to the second team, while Thiel placed two on the honorable mention list -- James Beedle, a 5-8 freshman guard and Damien Williams, a 6-2 senior forward. Beedle is from McDonald, while Williams played at Woodland Hills.
Rounding out the All-PAC first team were Matt and Mike Drahos and Scott Mazyk of Bethany and Jon Koch of Washington & amp; Jefferson.
Titans' leader
DeMonaco was a three-year starter for the Titans after transferring from LaRoche College following his freshman year. This season he led the Titans and ranked second in the PAC in scoring (21.4) and assists (3.84), third in free throw percentage (83.9 percent) and sixth in steals (1.8). He ranks sixth on the all-time Titan career scoring charts with 1,527 points. He was recently named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II College Division third team with a 3.21 GPA in accounting.
Hannon is a two-year starter for the Titans and ranked second on the team and third in the PAC at 20.2 ppg. He posted a team-high 105 3-pointers while averaging 3.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.0 steals per game. Hannon set a career high with 45 points in a 117-100 win over Thiel.
Rosatelli, who transferred from Saint Vincent College, averaged 9.4 points, 1.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.6 steals per game over 14 contests. Since entering the starting lineup, he helped the Titans to a 6-3 record.
The Titans were eliminated from post-season play by Waynesburg, 87-75, in the semifinals of the PAC tournament. Westminster was ranked fourth nationally in 3-point goals but was held to only 8-of-40 by Waynesburg. It marked the first time in 52 games the Titans were held to less than 10 3-pointers.
Two more for Klamut
Rob Klamut doesn't run around the Westminster campus proclaiming the superiority of his swimming teams. In the first place, he's not that kind of person, and secondly, he lets his efforts speak for themselves.
Klamut, who heads up both the men's and women's teams, came away with a double victory recently in the Presidents' Athletic Conference championships at Grove City College.
The team titles marked the third PAC championship in the past four years for both teams, as the men's team was PAC champion in 2003 and 2005 while the women's team also won in 2003 and 2004.
Klamut was named the PAC coach of the year for both men and women.
The Westminster men captured four events while erasing a pair of school records. Chris Lehberger of New Wilmington broke the 200 breaststroke record with a time of 2 minutes, 07.73 seconds. He is only a freshman.
Other Titan winners were junior Pat Smith (200 backstroke), freshman Zac Gebhardt (1650 freestyle) and freshman Conor Simpson (200 butterfly).
Ryan Trunk, a junior set a school record in the 100 butterfly with a second place time of 45.41.
Leading the women's team with a pair of first-place finishes were junior Britt Thomas and sophomore Steph Peters.
