Group invites students to enter local Holocaust Writing Contest



YOUNGSTOWN -- The Jewish Community Relations Council of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation is sponsoring a student Holocaust Writing Contest.
Pupils in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties and western Pennsylvania as well as area college students, are invited to participate.
The theme for this year's contest is "Legacies of Justice."
Holocaust Remembrance Day will be commemorated April 25, and this year's writing contest honors the courage of Holocaust survivors who testified during the Nazi war crimes trials in Nuremberg, Germany, as well as those who work for the cause of justice, both then and now.
Categories
Contest entrants are invited to submit an original piece of poetry and/or a narrative composition, and entries will be judged in four age-related categories: grades seven and eight, grades nine and 10, grades 11 and 12 and college.
Each category will receive one award for poetry and one for narrative writing. All entries must be typed or printed double-spaced on one side of numbered pages, up to 1,500 words. Each entry must have a title page containing the writer's name, home address and telephone number, school address and telephone number, teacher's name and grade.
The deadline is April 3. Submissions may be mailed to the Jewish Community Relations Council, 505 Gypsy Lane, Youngstown, 44504-1314, or e-mailed in the Microsoft Word format to jcrc@jewishyoungstown.org.
