Akron's 10-0 run is too much for Kent to overcome

AKRON -- Rob Preston scored all seven of his points in a 10-0 second-half run to spur Akron to a 75-67 victory over Kent State on Saturday.
The Zips (21-8, 14-4 Mid-American) trailed 45-41 after Jay Youngblood hit two free throws for regular-season champion Kent State (22-8, 15-3) with 12:27 left in the game.
But Akron scored the next 10 points.
Matt Futch hit a 3-pointer to start the rally before Preston's two foul shots at the 11:17 mark put Akron ahead for good.
Preston then added a 3-pointer and a layup to expand the lead to 51-45 with 9 1/2 minutes remaining.
Darryl Peterson had 22 points, with Cedrick Middleton adding 11 points as Akron finished unbeaten at home (13-0) for the first time in 19 years.
DeAndre Haynes scored 21 points, Youngblood had 20 and Mike Scott 10 for the Golden Flashes, who had a six-game winning streak come to an end.
Toledo 66, Cent. Michigan 64
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- Florentino Valencia scored 16 points off the bench and Ridley Johnson hit a putback lay-up at the buzzer, giving Toledo (17-10, 10-8 MAC) the win.
A basket by Eddie Spencer with 33 seconds remaining capped a 13-0 run for the Chippewas (4-23, 1-17) and tied the game at 64.
Then Johnson's rebound and basket sealed the win for the Rockets after Justin Ingram missed an 8-foot jumper.
Keonta Howell added 14 for the Rockets and Ingram scored 11. Giordan Watson led the Chippewas with 17 points, while Spencer added 12 and Jon Yeazel scored 10.
Ohio 85, Bowling Green 48
ATHENS -- Mychal Green scored 16 points and Ohio had its best shooting day of the season.
The Bobcats (17-10, 10-8 MAC) hit 63 percent of their shots from the field (32-of-51) including 50 percent from 3-point range (11-of-22).
Martin Samarco led Bowling Green (9-20, 5-13) with 20 points.
Miami (Ohio) 74, Buffalo 65
OXFORD -- Tim Pollitz scored 20 points including a critical basket in the second half to lead Miami (Ohio) over Buffalo.
William Hatcher added 13 points and Nathan Peavy and Monty St. Clair had 10 apiece for the RedHawks (18-9, 14-4 MAC).
Calvin Cage led Buffalo (18-12, 8-10) with 22 points.
Rhode Island 65, Dayton 56
DAYTON -- Dawan Robinson scored four points in an 8-0 run to close the game to lead Rhode Island (14-13) over Dayton (14-16), which missed its last three shots from the field and had turnovers on its two other possessions.
Massachusetts 65, Xavier 56
AMHERST, Mass. -- Stephane Lasme had 18 points and 11 rebounds and Jeff Viggiano sparked a late 13-2 run as Massachusetts (13-14) ended the regular season with a win over Xavier (17-10, 8-8), which went without a field goal for the final eight minutes of the game.
