ROOTSTOWN -- The Waterloo High girls basketball team showed Thursday exactly why it is the top-seeded team in the Division III district tournament Thursday at Rootstown High.
The Vikings (20-2) upended United 93-44 as Cara Bedard, Sara Wojciechowski, Laura Schiele and Erica Jarvis scored in double figures.
"We knew going in we were playing the number-one seed," United coach Matt Ziegler said. "Waterloo had a lot of baseline shots and rebounded when they missed and put them back up in."
The Vikings also made 10 3-point baskets.
"Waterloo started to hit those threes in the second quarter and that bothered us," Ziegler said.
Ahead 22-14 at the end of the first quarter, a 26-11 surge in the second quarter gave Waterloo a 48-25 margin at the intermission.
Waterloo put the contest out of reach as it outscored United 22-10 in the third quarter to hold a 70-35 advantage.

The Vikings controlled throughout, causing the Golden Eagles (7-15) to make 20 turnovers and they also won the battle of the boards, 30-15.
"In the second quarter, their five-point lead went to a 20-point lead in a hurry," Ziegler said.
Jarvis paced the Vikings with 22 points, while Bedard and Schiele each had 16.
Ziegler said, "Schiele is as good as a guard we've season this season."
Sara Wojciechowski chipped in with 15 points and was 5-of-5 from 3-point range.
Tiffany Stevenson grabbed 10 rebounds, while Jarvis and Bedard pulled down five apiece.
The Golden Eagles managed to get only one player in double figures as Darlene Woolf scored 11 points. Allison Graham and Lindsay Firth each had eight.
The Vikings will take on Woodridge for the district crown Saturday at 2 p.m.
