Where have we gone wrong?
Where have we gone wrong?
EDITOR:
What is wrong with neighbors of 388 Melrose Ave., who must have heard the starving dogs barking if they saw them jumping at the windows? And what is wrong with the mail carrier, who must have noticed the mail collecting in the mail box and the dogs carrying on and then appearing to weaken.
What if the foul odor coming from that house was a person who was in need instead of just two starving dogs.
Did you forget to keep an eye out for your neighbor or have we gotten to the point that we just don't care? All it would have taken is a phone call to your local police or Humane Society.

All the signs were there
EDITOR:
This is in response to the story, "Debris and dead dogs in house." The mail carrier said on Feb. 11 that the dogs who usually barked "like crazy" when he was there weren't barking at him with as much energy as they used to. Mail was overflowing from the mail box.
The neighbors said the dogs were clawing at the windows on recent weeks. Weeks? I cannot understand that nobody cared enough to call somebody. I have rescued two dogs left outside, and one of them abandoned. All I can say, I just read this article and am very saddened. Why did nobody care?
What a sad horrible death these poor animals had. The one dog's leg was chewed off. Who ever left those animals need to be punished and prosecuted in a court of law. May these people find the Lord and some love for animals. I pray God works on their conscience.

There's been a lot in the news lately to talk about
EDITOR:
I have some comments to make about some of the things in the news lately.
First of all, George Bush says he has the right to listen to our phone conversations and force libraries and bookstores to tell the government what books we are reading. Over the last 15 years I have been falsely accused by the local police, once by the state patrol and twice by Howland Township. They were trying to justify their jobs, but I doubt if the federal police would be any better.
Second, The Trumbull County Educational Service Center superintendent retired at the end of last year at 88 percent of his salary. He was making $105,000 a year. He was hired back a few months later and will be making over $180,000 a year. The board justified this by saying the state will pick up his health insurance and superintendents are hard to find. Maybe good for the county, but bad for Ohio taxpayers.
Third, we have Trent Lott, the senator from Mississippi, who seems to have a foot in mouth problem. When told about a rule that would prohibit lobbyists from spending more than $20 on a congressman's lunch, he replied, "What do they want us to do, eat at McDonald's." Talk about a sense of entitlement. Most Americans spend less than $20 for lunch and pay for it themselves.
Last, we have Iraq. It is hard to believe the war wimps in the White House were stupid enough to believe the war in Iraq would be a cakewalk. I think they did it for two reasons. First, to play the patriotism card in elections. Second, if they didn't, Israel would. Saddam Hussein was paying $25,000 to the families of suicide bombers. Since he has been overthrown, there have been a lot less bombings in Israel.
The problem is 2 percent of the people in Iraq are Christians. Saddam was a lowlife, but there was freedom of religion as long as you didn't make waves. It is a capital crime to be a Christian in Iran and Saudia Arabia, the two countries with the most influence in Iraq. When the Shiites and the Sunnis get tired of killing each other, they may start on the Christians. There may be a worse blood bath than there already is. Maybe we will bring those 20,000 people over here.
