Theft leads to fight at Giant Eagle
AUSTINTOWN -- A store manager at Giant Eagle on Mahoning Avenue found himself in the middle of a fight after he confronted a man he said stole steaks from the store.
The manager was struggling with the man outside the store Tuesday around 8 p.m., and a customer on his way in stopped to help, a township police report says.
Meanwhile, a woman got out of a truck parked nearby and joined in the fight, trying to get them to let the man go.
The manager and the customer were slightly injured after the woman hit them on their heads, the report said.
Police said that when they searched the truck, they found other items belonging to Giant Eagle and no receipt for them.
Police have charged Todd Hively, 27, of West Middletown Road in Salem, with robbery, a second-degree felony.
Cynthia Hinchcliffe, 45, of Bouquet Avenue in Youngstown, is charged with two counts of assault, both first-degree misdemeanors.
Both appeared in Mahoning County Court in Austintown Wednesday. Hively is set to appear again for a preliminary hearing Monday. Hinchcliffe pleaded innocent, and a trial is set for her at 2:30 p.m. May 22.
