YOUNGSTOWN -- The HBA of Mahoning Valley is holding the Summer Parade of Homes June 17-25 at Catarina Place in Poland. The show is being presented by Home Savings and 84 Lumber Co. Ricottilli Construction Inc. is the event's developer. The show will showcase nine new homes (2,500 square feet and above). Builders are PMD Builders, Mill Creek Construction, Fonderlin Construction, Master Plan Builders, Specialty Homes, Ross Builders, B.R. Knez Construction, Ricottilli Construction and Sudon Bros. Board reorganizes
VIENNA -- The Trumbull County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management Advisory Board reorganized at its meeting this week. Jack Simon of Liberty Township was re-elected to serve as chairman, and Fred Bobovnyk from Weathersfield Township will serve as vice chairman. Rebecca Whitman of Hartford Township was re-elected secretary. Tom Gladd of Mecca Township was re-elected to a trustee position, and Larry Sembach of Newton Falls was re-elected to the nonelected official position.
Radiology monitor quits
LISBON -- The Columbiana County Emergency Management Agency has lost its radiology monitor. The county commissioners said Wednesday that Richard Dunn of Lisbon had found another job and resigned. He was serving a probationary period as the county's radiology monitor. The county EMA is supposed to have a worker to help monitor radioactivity in case of a mishap at the Beaver Valley Nuclear Power plant in Shippingport, Pa. The state has a radiology monitor stationed at the county EMA.
$8,500 gift receivedfor revolving loan fund
LISBON -- The Community Action Agency of Columbiana County has received a gift of $8,500 for the Microenterprise Revolving Loan Program from the Alexander Shashaty Fund Trust. Shashaty was the president and chief executive officer of Fairfield Machine Co. in Columbiana for more than 30 years. Shashaty, who supported local business development, died in 2003. The CAA administers the revolving program for the county commissioners that provides funds for people with low incomes who cannot obtain financing from other sources. Applicants undergo education before they seek up to $15,000. Since 2002, the program has approved 17 loans for a total of $149,770 for businesses that include printing, excavating, landscaping and a flower shop.
Fire found to be arson
YOUNGSTOWN -- A fire was intentionally set at 73 Tod Lane and did $3,000 damage to the vacant house, the fire department said. The windows and doors were found open when firefighters arrived around 6:50 p.m. Tuesday. Fires had been set in the basement, hallway and bedroom. Demolition was ordered because the roof collapsed. A man was seen running from the fire and riding off in a blue Cadillac, reports show. This is the latest in a string of arson fires on the North Side.
Paving bids studied
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Bids for the summer street paving program were turned over to township engineer Thomas Fok & amp; Associates for study after being opened at a special meeting of New Middletown Village Council Wednesday. Bidders included: Shelly's Sands Inc., Akron, $59,665; Hysong Paving, North Canton, $63,127; Diorio Paving Inc., Girard, $63,571; Shelly & amp; Co., Twinsburg, $65,559; and Butch & amp; McCree Paving Co., Hillsville, Pa., $70,164. The contract is expected to be awarded at council's meeting at 7 p.m. Monday.
Adult CPR training
BOARDMAN -- The Mahoning Chapter of the American Red Cross is offering adult CPR training from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday and March 18; and from 6 to 10 p.m. Wednesdays during March.
