OHIO COLLEGE ROUNDUP Kent State clinches MAC East crown by beating Ohio, 78-58



The win locked up the No. 1 seed and a first round tournament bye.

KENT -- DeAndre Haynes scored 24 points and Kent State clinched the Mid-American Conference East Division championship with a 78-58 win over Ohio on Tuesday night.
Kevin Warzynski scored 15, Jay Youngblood added 13 points and Armon Gates had 11 for the Golden Flashes (22-7, 15-2).
Mychal Green led the Bobcats (16-10, 9-8) with 16 points, and Whitney Davis had 13.
Kent State locked up the No. 1 seed in the MAC tournament and has a first-round bye, along with Akron and Miami (Ohio).
Seton Hall 72, Cincinnati 62
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Donald Copeland scored 14 of his 28 points in the final 6 1/2 minutes and Seton Hall snapped a three-game losing streak.
Kelly Whitney added 18 points and 11 rebounds for the Pirates (17-10, 8-7), who clinched a berth in next week's Big East tournament. Seton Hall was tied for seventh place with the Bearcats (18-11, 7-8), who are still one of eight teams trying to clinch the final five berths in the conference tournament.
Copeland hit two of his four 3-pointers in the 13-1 run that gave the Pirates a 59-52 lead with 4:36 to play. Jihad Muhammad, who led the Bearcats with 21 points, hit a 3 to start a 5-0 run that made it a two-point game with 4 minutes to play.
Copeland made four free throws in a 7-0 run that put Seton Hall ahead 66-57 with 1:25 left.
Muhammad hit a long 3-pointer 10 seconds later to make it a five-point game, but Copeland then went 6-for-6 from the free throw line to give the Pirates their biggest lead, 72-60 with 34 seconds to go.
James White had 17 points for Cincinnati.
Saint Joseph's 68, Xavier 58
CINCINNATI -- Abduli Jalloh and Dwayne Lee each scored 18 points to lead Saint Joseph's.
Jalloh had his second good game in a row for the Hawks (14-12, 8-7 Atlantic 10) after a four-game slump. Against Fordham last Wednesday, he scored 23 points, after shooting 28.5 percent from the field in his previous four games, including 2-of-22 from behind the 3-point arc.
Justin Cage led Xavier (17-9, 8-7) with 14 points and Justin Doellman added 12.
Rob Ferguson scored 12 points for Saint Joseph's and Chet Stachitas had 10.
