New Middletown plans improvements

NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Village council is taking steps to beautify and light the business center.
Council met in special session Wednesday and unanimously agreed to apply for a traffic enhancement grant from Eastgate Regional Council of Governments for construction of a 324-foot sidewalk extension on the west side of Main street from Woodland to Ohlin Drive and for 10 decorative streetlights in the same area.
Mayor Robert Carson said the work would enhance the safety of people walking to the new library location on Main Street. The area currently has no sidewalk and is across from a busy plaza. The village would have to provide a 20 percent match for any money awarded.
