Austintown woman sentenced
YOUNGSTOWN -- An Austintown woman has been sentenced to three years' probation on a child-endangering conviction.
Judge R. Scott Krichbaum of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court also ordered Tiffany Bungard, 35, of Westchester Drive, to complete a six-month residential program at Community Corrections Association. Bungard, who was sentenced Wednesday, pleaded no contest last November and was found guilty.
Prosecutors said Bungard was sitting in a parked car Aug. 9 and did nothing to remove her 6-year-old daughter from the car while John M. Poprosky, also of Westchester Drive, injected himself with heroin.
Poprosky and Bungard were sitting in the front seats of the car, while the child was in the back seat but not restrained in a child safety seat. Prosecutors argued the girl was in danger because she was only a few feet away from the heroin and could have come in contact with it if she had reached over the seat.
Bungard was previously convicted of a misdemeanor charge of child endangering in 2002, which made the current charge more serious, prosecutors said.
Judge Krichbaum sentenced Poprosky in December to one year in prison for heroin possession.
