ON THE SIDE. . .
This and that from the world of Valley politics.
CHANGE IN PLANS: U.S. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton almost came to the Mahoning Valley last week. The former first lady was supposed to make a quick stop at a fundraiser for U.S. Rep. Sherrod Brown. Brown is the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate seat held by Mike DeWine, a Republican seeking re-election in November. Clinton was to stop at the event for about an hour last Saturday before heading to another political event in Cleveland that day.
The fundraiser, with a suggested donation of $1,000 per ticket, was to be held at the home of Bruce Zoldan, one of the area's most prominent political contributors who gives money to Democrats and Republicans. Because of a death in Zoldan's family, the event was canceled.
While Zoldan is raising money for Brown this year, he and his wife, Rori, have contributed $6,500 to DeWine's federal committee since 1997. During that same time-frame, Zoldan gave $1,000 to Brown's U.S. House committee.
