Man, teen are facing charges

BOARDMAN -- Police arrested a Youngstown man and an Austintown juvenile after spotting them in a car reported stolen from Youngstown.
Police charged Dion D. Weatherspoon, 18, of Hilton Avenue with receiving stolen property and resisting arrest. There also was a warrant from Mahoning County Juvenile Court on Weatherspoon for participation in a criminal gang.
According to a police report, Weatherspoon is affiliated with L Unit, a gang named for Lucius Avenue in Youngstown.
Police charged the 16-year-old male of Purdue Avenue, Austintown, with receiving stolen property, obstructing official business and resisting arrest. A warrant from Mahoning County's Martin P. Joyce Juvenile Justice Center had been issued for him for being a runaway.
On Tuesday afternoon, a police officer saw a Pontiac Grand Prix traveling south on Southern Boulevard, ran the plate number and discovered the car had been reported stolen from the city.
The officer followed them, and the car pulled into a Market Street lot and the two occupants fled. They hid beneath a pine tree near a building on Market.
When additional units arrived, the two were arrested.
Both initially gave police different names and dates of birth.
Weatherspoon was lodged in the Mahoning County jail, while the juvenile was taken to the juvenile justice center.
