YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown Symphony Society in conjunction with First Place Bank Community Foundation will present three national touring musical productions next year.
Early-bird ticket specials are on sale for Elton John and Tim Rice's "Aida"; the musical tribute to Ray Charles, "I Can't Stop Loving You"; and the musical "Chicago." Go to the DeYor Performing Arts Center box office, or call (330) 744-0264.
All three shows will be performed for the first time in the Mahoning Valley at the Edward W. Powers Auditorium. All showtimes are 7:30 p.m.
Coming for one performance only Jan. 23, "Aida" is an epic tale of love, loyalty, betrayal and courage with a Tony and Grammy award-winning score by Elton John and Tim Rice -- the duo who wrote "The Lion King" score. It tells of the love triangle between Aida, a Nubian princess stolen from her country, Amneris, an Egyptian princess, and Radames, the soldier they both love.
"I Can't Stop Loving You" will be presented Feb. 5 and Feb. 6 to celebrate Black History Month.
A full stage orchestra, dazzling dancers and a group of accomplished singers belt out a string of hits by one of America's most influential musicians. Charles fused gospel, blues and country to create an incomparable style. "I Can't Stop Loving You" features 36 Charles hits, including "Georgia On My Mind," "I Can't Stop Loving You," "Hit the Road Jack," "Unchain My Heart" and "What'd I Say."
"Chicago," Broadway's most popular musical, will play March 12-14. It is a tale of sin and celebrity, with choreography in the style of Bob Fosse. "Chicago" is the recipient of six Tony Awards, two Oliver Awards and a Grammy.
