Bill would give incentives for alternative fuels
YOUNGSTOWN -- State Rep. John Boccieri of New Middletown, D-61st, will introduce legislation in the Ohio House to provide tax and other incentives to companies to produce ethanol, bio-diesel and other alternative fuels on reclaimed brownfield property.
The bill also would provide incentives for the use of clean-coal technology and for the use of alternative fuels as byproducts such as using ethanol to product plastics.
The state incentives include commercial activity tax exemptions, credits against the franchise tax, additional tax credits for brownfield cleanup costs and an expedited Environmental Protection Agency permitting process.
Boccieri drafted the proposal with the assistance of Clean Fuels Ohio, the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation, the Ohio Corn Growers Association, the Ohio Soybean Council and Energy Industries of Ohio.
