Warren baby's death is ruled a homicide

WARREN -- The death of a 6-month-old boy with human bite marks on his body has been ruled a homicide by Dr. Humphrey Germaniuk of the county coroner's office.
Douglas Elkins was pronounced dead the morning of June 22 in the emergency room at St. Joseph Health Center.
Dr. Germaniuk, a forensic pathologist, declined to give the cause of death.
He said the boy was taken to the hospital about 4 a.m.
Police Chief John Mandopoulas said the hospital medical staff called police because the injuries "looked suspicious."
Mandopoulas said the baby's body had human bite marks on it, but said a connection hasn't been made as to whose bite marks they are.
