From Eastwood Field
Follow a pattern: The Scrappers have been consistent in their winning and losing pattern thus far this year. Mahoning Valley has won every other game in their six starts. After playing three straight one-run games against Jamestown (losing two of them), the Scrappers have set team highs in both hits and runs this year against the Crosscutters.
Up and down: The Scrappers announced Saturday that infielder Jason Denham, who came to the team this year after a season in the Rookie League at Burlington, was promoted to the Class A Lake County Captains, while the team also welcomed rookie pitcher Matt Meyer, a 15th round draft pick out of Boston College.
Tonight's starter: J.D. Martin will make his second start on rehab out of the Class AA Akron Aeros. Martin started last Wednesday game at Jamestown, going three innings, allowing one run on two hits with a pair of strikeouts. He was the 35th player taken in the 2001 draft and he's coming off Tommy John surgery.
Hot streak: Scrappers infielder Andy Lytle is one of the hottest hitters in the league. Lytle had three hits Sunday, the fourth time in six games that he's had multiple hits. He was hitting .318 coming into the contest. Kelly Edmundson, who sat out Sunday's game, was 4-for-6 in the first two games and led the team with a .375 average.
No show: Although there were probably a few no shows in the crowd of 2,900 that was announced on Sunday, the biggest no show of the day turned out to be the Pirate Parrot, who never made it to Eastwood Field. Instead, Pittsburgh Pirogie Cheese Chester made an appearance, but it wasn't the same.
