Luncheon, Mass honor Turjanicas on anniversary



XAUSTINTOWN -- The 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Harold (Elizabeth) Turjanica, 4556 Norquest Blvd., was celebrated June 24 with family and friends at Monsignor Prokop Hall in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, where a luncheon was held in honor of the couple.
During the event, a papal blessing was presented to the couple by the Rev. Richard Lambert of St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, Youngstown, where they are members.
After the luncheon, their daughter and son, Mary Ann Turjanica and Charles Turjanica, both of Austintown, were hosts for a cake reception at the Turjanica home.
The anniversary is also being observed at the 9 a.m. Mass today at St. Mary Church.
Married June 16, 1956, at St. John Byzantine Catholic Church in Uniontown, Pa., the Turjanicas have been Valley residents ever since.
Mr. Turjanica served with the Navy during World War II and is an Army National Guard Korean War veteran. He retired in 1987 from Hynes Industries in Youngstown, where he was a slitter operator.
Mrs. Turjanica was employed by the Niles Board of Education as a second-grade teacher at Lincoln Elementary School before retiring in 1993. She is a member of St. Mary Rosary Society, and is a pianist, organist and violinist.
