PRO BASKETBALL

PRO BASKETBALL
Area history
The Mahoning Valley has produced plenty of pro football and baseball players, but the number of pro basketball players to come out of the area is small. The most famous is probably Farrell's Jack Marin, who played at Duke and was a solid pro with the Baltimore Bullets. Two of his high school teammates, Brian Generalovich (who went to Pitt and was drafted by the Knicks) and Willie Somerset (who went to Duquesne, was drafted by the Baltimore Bullets and played in the ABA) also have pro connections. Some of the area's other former pro players include Leo Mogus (who went to Scienceville and YSU and played in the NBL, which was the forerunner to the NBA); Monti Davis (Warren Harding/Tennessee St., drafted in first round by the Philadelphia 76ers in 1980); Fred Holden (Mooney/Louisville, drafted by the Chicago Bulls); Tony "Zippy Morocco (Ursuline/Georgia, drafted by the Minneapolis Lakers in 1953); Micky Yugovich (Wilson/YSU, drafted by the Detroit Pistons in 1960); Will Teague (East/YSU, drafted by the Lakers in 1970); Bob Fleisher (Liberty/Duke, drafted by Buffalo Braves in 1975); Tim Joyce (Ursuline/Tennessee/Ohio University, drafted by the Cavaliers in 1979); and Greg Jones (Rayen/West Virginia, drafted by the Pacers in 1983).
