Newark, Cambridge to get new VA service

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Two Ohio cities are among 25 across the country that will get new Veterans Affairs outpatient services, the government said Friday.
A new community-based clinic will open in Newark, 40 miles east of Columbus, and an existing clinic in Cambridge in eastern Ohio will expand to provide additional services, such as podiatry, said Robert Barnhart, a spokesman for the Chillicothe VA Medical Center that oversees the Cambridge clinic.
The announcement is part of a larger VA restructuring to better deliver services to veterans, whose "geographic location has shifted over the years," said VA spokesman Matt Burns.
The VA still has to select a specific location in Newark and hasn't yet determined the cost or timing of setting up either of the facilities.
There are already 28 community outpatient clinics in Ohio. Most of them focus on medical care for veterans who are far from larger VA hospitals in Chillicothe, Cincinnati, Cleveland and Dayton.
The VA spent $2.8 billion last year to serve Ohio's 1 million veterans
