DOCTORS
To begin residency
Alicia C. Walters Stewart, daughter of Kenneth and Roselle Walters of Girard, and daughter of Dorothea Walters of Vienna, recently graduated from the Medical University of Ohio in Toledo.
She was a member of Trumbull County Medical Society and Lucas County Academy of Family Physicians Award and received the Warren 12th District Academy of Osteopathic Medicine Scholarship.
She was a 2002 summa cum laude graduate of John Carroll University in University Heights, where she was a member of Phi Eta Sigma, John Carroll National Honor Society, Alpha Epsilon Delta and John Carroll Pre-Medical Society. A 1998 graduate of Mathews High School, she was valedictorian and a member of its National Honor Society.
Her residency will be in family medicine at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, N.C. She and her husband, Charles Stewart, live in Winston-Salem.
New pharmacist
Renee Prachick, daughter of Joseph and Roseann Prachick of North Jackson, has earned her doctor of pharmacy degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine School of Pharmacy in Erie, Pa.
A 2000 graduate of Jackson-Milton High School, Prachick completed her pre-pharmacy at the University of Toledo, having also attended Kent State and Youngstown State universities. She has accepted employment in North Carolina.
Pharmacy degree
Brian Patrick Kale of New Middletown has received his doctor of pharmacy degree from The Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine School of Pharmacy.
Dr. Kale is the son of Harry and Jayne Kale of New Middletown and is a 1997 graduate of Springfield Local High School. He received his bachelor's degree with honors from Youngstown State University in 2001. Dr. Kale was the recipient of the LECOM Academic Excellence Award given to a member of the LECOM graduating class with the highest academic standing after three years of study.
Doctorate from USC
Samia H. Rafeedie, daughter of Husam and Salwa Rafeedie of Youngstown, was recently awarded a doctorate of occupational therapy from the University of Southern California.
At USC she maintained a 4.0 grade point average and was awarded the Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy's Certificate of Excellence for Outstanding Contribution in the Role of Teaching Assistant. The award is given "for creativity and dedication in the support of programming to enhance the learning opportunities provided by the department."
Dr. Rafeedie is working in Takoma Park, Md., at an acute-care hospital. She intends to continue her academic work, teaching occupational science in addition to practicing in a clinical setting. She is a 1995 graduate of Chaney High School.
Pharmacy degree granted
Stephanie A. Sinkovich of Boardman, daughter of Robert and Carol Sinkovich of Boardman, has received her doctor of pharmacy degree from Ohio State University's College of Pharmacy. While at OSU, she was a member of the American Pharmacists Association and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.
Dr. Sinkovich is a 2000 graduate of Seton Hill College in Greensburg, Pa., with a bachelor's degree in biology. She is also a 1996 graduate of Boardman High School. She is employed by Walgreens Pharmacy.
Doctor of pharmacy
Crystal M. Chicone, daughter of Carmen and Janet Chicone of North Lima, has received her doctor of pharmacy degree from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. She is a 2000 graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School.
Dr. Chicone has accepted a position with Walgreens Pharmacy in Phoenix, Ariz. She is the granddaughter of Carmen and Antoinette Chicone of Boardman and Joann Petrek of Hubbard and the late Joe Petrek.
SCOUTS
Eagle award
Joshua Grossman, son of Dan and Marsha Grossman of Austintown, has received his Eagle Scout Award.
Joshua, a member of Troop 115, located at St. Michael Church, Canfield, earned 26 merit badges and is member of Wapashuwi Lodge 56 Order of the Arrow. He has held troop offices of senior patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, chaplain's aide and quarter master over a scouting career that began in 2000. His assistant Scoutmaster is Robert McKinney.
He was selected Camper of the Week at the Beaumont Scout Reservation two consecutive years. He was selected Scout of the Year 2005 by the troop committee, receiving his Ad Altari Dei and Pope Pius XII religious awards.
His Eagle Scout service project consisted of procuring a grant from the Mahoning County Green Team in order to purchase park benches and flower pots made of recycled products and installing eight powder-coated balusters on the perimeter of St. Michael in front of the sanctuary.
Joshua is a junior at Austintown Fitch High School. He is a member of St. Michael, where he was an altar server, and a current member of the youth ministry and the church's Celebrate team. He also does volunteer work at Shepherd of the Valley facility in Niles.
LAWYERS
Juris doctorate
Robert Crumpler Bacon recently received his juris doctor degree from University of Maryland School of Law.
Bacon received his bachelor's degree in international relations and Spanish from Kent State University in 2001. He is the son of Barbara C. Orton and the late Oscar Bacon, and the grandson of Jessie Irby and the late Atty. Robert B. Crumpler, all of Youngstown.
