ENDANGERED SPECIES: University of Maine graduate student Stephen Fenandes holds a shortnose sturgeon after it was captured from the Penobscot River near Winterport, Maine. The endangered species hasn't been seen in the river since 1978. It and four others like it were fitted with acoustic tags and released back into the river as part of an ongoing research effort.
