CAMPUS NOTES \ In the spotlight



YOUNGSTOWN STATE UNIVERSITY
Dusan D. Stefanovic of Boardman and Justin M. Mercer of Georgetown, Pa., have been named Tau Beta Pi Scholars for their scholarship, campus leadership and service. Stefanovic, an electrical and computer engineering major, and Mercer, a mechanical engineering major, are among only 123 students nationwide selected for the honor by the Tau Beta Pi engineering honor society. They will each receive a $2,000 award.
MIAMI UNIVERSITY, OXFORD, OHIO
Kerri Shelton, daughter of Steve and Christine Shelton of Liberty and a graduate of Liberty High School, has accepted a summer research assistantship at Kent State University researching "Liquid Crystals for Quantum Computing." The research project began June 5 and ends Aug. 11. Shelton will return as a junior to Miami in the fall where she is a chemistry major. Upon graduation, she hopes to pursue a medical degree. She was inducted into the Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity in spring 2005 and is a member of the American Medical Students Association. She is employed as a chemistry tutor for the Bernard B. Rinella Jr. Learning Assistance Center and is a Peer Team Leader for Miami's Chemistry Department.
DENISON UNIVERSITY, GRANVILLE, OHIO
Jessica West, daughter of Georgia West of Youngstown, will study with the School for International Training's Public Health program in South Africa this fall semester. She is a senior communication major at Dennison and a 2003 graduate of Culver Girls Academy.
BALDWIN-WALLACE COLLEGE
Courtney Masternick, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Joseph Masternick of Boardman, will study at the University of Sunshine coast in Queensland, Australia, this fall. The 2004 graduate of Boardman High School is an early-childhood education and mild/moderate special-needs major at Baldwin-Wallace. She is a member of Alpha Phi sorority and Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Cleveland.
