CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Cheryl Ford had a career-high 24 points and 14 rebounds to lead Detroit to its third straight win. Katie Smith added 16 points and Deanna Nolan had 14, including a 3-pointer that capped an 8-0 run that put the Shock ahead 70-60 with 7:08 remaining. After the Sting came within four, Detroit pulled away with Ford's putback and Smith's 3-pointer that helped extend the lead to 11 with two minutes to go. Detroit (7-4) shot 49 percent and held a 39-24 rebounding edge. Ford, the league's top rebounder, posted her seventh double-double. Tammy Sutton-Brown and Tangela Smith each scored 18 points and Kelly Mazzante added a career-high 17 for the Sting (2-9), who lost their fifth straight.
Sun 79, Lynx 62
UNCASVILLE, Conn. -- Lindsay Whalen and Margo Dydek scored 16 points each to lead Connecticut over Minnesota. Asjha Jones came off the bench to score 13 points and pull down 11 rebounds for the Eastern Conference-leading Sun (9-3). Katie Douglas added 12 points and seven rebounds while drawing the assignment of defending Minnesota's rookie sensation Seimone Augustus, who scored 15 points. It matched her second-lowest scoring total of the season and was eight points below her season average. Nicole Ohlde led the Lynx with 16 points and seven rebounds.
