Ohio authorities hold 2 wanted in attack in Pa.
Pennsylvania authorities are trying to extradite the men.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Two men who Pennsylvania State Police say terrorized and robbed two women have been captured in Ohio.
James Rhodes, 34, surrendered to Columbiana County sheriff's deputies Wednesday evening.
And Bernard "Brusha" Gorvet, 50, of Leah Avenue, Youngstown, was found hiding in his home Thursday morning and taken to the Mahoning County jail, said Deputy U.S. Marshal Dean Michael, leader of the marshal's fugitive task force.
Pennsylvania authorities say they are trying to extradite both men to face charges of criminal attempt to commit homicide, robbery, aggravated assault, terroristic threats and recklessly endangering another person.
What's alleged
A 34-year-old woman told police she and a 17-year-old female companion were forced off the road and their purses taken by the men, who then shot at them as the females fled into nearby woods Wednesday morning.
Youngstown police found the women's purses over a hillside behind Gorvet's home later that day.
According to a Youngstown police report, Laura Kotsch and Larry Keith were at the Leah Avenue home when police arrived searching for Gorvet and Rhodes. Police said the two told them they were in the vehicle when Gorvet and Rhodes assaulted the women in Darlington Township, Pa. Kotsch and Keith agreed to help the Violent Crimes Task Force, and Kotsch led police to the area where the women's purses had been discarded. Michael said the two have not been charged in Pennsylvania.
Michael said the hunt for the two men was aided by the FBI/Mahoning Valley Violent Fugitive Task Force, Youngstown police, deputies from Mahoning and Columbiana counties' sheriff's department, Ohio State Highway Patrol and Pennsylvania State Police, Mahoning County Prosecutor's Office and Ohio Adult Parole Authority.
Hearing set
A preliminary hearing will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday in Columbiana County Municipal Court to determine if Rhodes will be bound over to the county grand jury. Rhodes is charged with one count of failure to comply with a police order, a third-degree felony.
Judge Carol Robb on Thursday set Rhodes' bond at $500,000. It's unclear if bond was set for Gorvet.
Assistant Columbiana County Prosecutor Virginia Barborak said Rhodes briefly began to shout during the hearing when his bond was being set.
Rhodes has an extensive felony and misdemeanor record, she added.
His present charge stems from his being stopped in East Palestine for driving with a cracked windshield June 8. A passenger in the car had an outstanding warrant. When the officer went to arrest the passenger, Rhodes drove down state Route 7 at speeds of about 70 mph, she said.
Authorities said Rhodes formerly had an address on Bell Road in Elkrun Township, but the mobile home had burned shortly after he had moved to Florida.
In addition to the Columbiana County charges, Rhodes is wanted on a Florida warrant that charges him with assault with a deadly weapon based on accusations that he tried to run over his girlfriend with a car, Michael said.
