Officers are installed, scholarships awarded



Students recognized for their scholastic and personal achievements.
CANFIELD -- The installation of officers for 2006-2007 and the presentation of two scholarships were on the agenda when Yo-Mah-O Chapter of the International Association of Administrative Professionals met June 13 at A La Cart Catering.
Joan Giba and Mary Hake served as installing officers for the induction ceremony.
Christine Simone was seated as president of the organization, and accepting the responsibilities as her associate officers were Bonnie Filipovich, vice president; Joan Battagline, secretary; Milissa Ferraro-Gahagan, treasurer; and Christine Bidwell, assistant treasurer. Marlene Dailey will serve as parliamentarian.

Appointed as heads of committees were: Judy Cundik and Barbara Kramer, Administrative Professional Week and retirement center; Bidwell and Carol Riefler, attendance and courtesy; Joyce Laska, audit; Lynn Romeo, bulletin, community service, and rules and bylaws; Judy Cundik, certification; Debbie Yiannaki and Sue Urmson, education; Mary Lynn Savage, executive night; Giba, Member of the Year; Hake, member roster; Sharyn Fees, membership and Web site; Dailey and Sharon Conway, program/social; Barbara Sofranec, publicity and scrapbook; and Tracy Goad and Ferraro-Gahagan, ways and means.
Simone joined the chapter in 1999 and has served as corresponding secretary, president-elect and Ohio Division Certification Committee chairperson, and on various committees. She was the chapter's 2004 Member of the Year and served as president for 2005-2006. She is office manager at Melmor Associates, where she has worked 20 years, and is pursuing a degree in information technology at Youngstown State University.
Award recipients
IAAP scholarships of $1,000 each were awarded to Kyle Melewski and Sarah Sivulich.
Melewski is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Melewski of Canfield and a graduate of Canfield High School, where he held a 3.69 grade point average and received numerous athletic honors, including a three-year varsity letter in basketball. He was a member of the National Honor Society and was recognized in Who's Who Among American Students. He also volunteers as a teacher's aide-CCD at St. Christine Church in Boardman He will pursue a business degree at Ohio University.
Sivulich is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Sivulich of Hubbard and a graduate of Hubbard High School, where she held a 3.68 grade point average. She will pursue a degree in business management at Youngstown State University. She was a member of National Honor Society, Spanish Club, S.A.D.D., Help Club, Quill and Scroll, the academic team and the symphonic band, and served as a majorette. She earned several awards, including an Award of Merit, the Honors Diploma and the President's Education Award for Educational Excellence. She is a member of the YSU dance team for the 2006-2007 basketball season. She attended Buckeye Girls State and Rotary Youth Leadership and is involved in Youth Ministry and Relay for Life.
