Convicted former mayor also violated election laws

COLUMBUS -- The former mayor of Lyndhurst who scammed Trumbull County out of $200,000 has been found in violation of state elections law.
The Ohio Elections Commission found Thursday that Barry M. Jacobson and his formerly active campaign committee had filed Jacobson's 2005 midyear campaign finance report late.
The commission found a violation but did not move to impose fines or refer the matter for criminal prosecution.
Elections commission officials said Jacobson has filed the necessary paperwork and that his campaign committee has been terminated.
Earlier this week, Jacobson, of Chagrin Falls, surrendered himself to the Geauga County jail in his conviction for his role in a Trumbull County purchasing controversy.
A Trumbull County judge sentenced Jacobson in April to five years of probation with the first 30 days in jail and restitution of $200,000 in the case.
Jacobson pleaded guilty in September 2003 to one count each of bribery and complicity to theft in office. Authorities alleged that Jacobson was selling supplies to the county at a price inflated as much as 500 percent.
