Packard raises $1,100 for kids

WARREN -- Kaleb Owens, who suffered brain damage falling off a wagon last year, attended a charity celebration Wednesday at Delphi Packard Electric Systems.
The family of the Cortland boy received $1,100 from the auction of a satellite radio system.
The donation is part of the $40,000 that Packard has raised for charity this year through donations, raffles and food sales.
Included were $21,000 for the Relay for Life, which raises money for cancer research, and $14,500 for the children services agencies in Trumbull and Mahoning counties.
Kaleb and his family were invited to Packard's North River Road plant as part of the company's Excellence Week, which honors workers and their contributions.
Kaleb, a Cortland Elementary pupil, was in a coma for three months after his accident Oct. 15, but now he is recovering at home with his parents, Amy and Matt Stockton.
The boy was riding in a wagon on an outing with other children when he rolled off and a wheel ran over his head.
He can't speak or stand without assistance but can hold his head up for about six minutes. Those who want to keep track of Kaleb's condition can log onto www.caringbridge.org. Go to "visit" and type in his name -- one word, all lower case.
