Pavilion's future uncertain
CORTLAND -- The city may not rebuild a pavilion in Willow Park that was heavily damaged by a Monday thunderstorm.
Service Director Don Wittman said the pavilion that was used to store city materials and athletic equipment was damaged when the storm knocked down a tree that fell on the structure.
Some softball coaches and players had fled to the pavilion to get out of the storm. Some of them had what Wittman described as "minor scrapes."
Three vehicles were also damaged in the park.
Wittman said Tuesday that a decision to rebuild the pavilion has not been made and will be reviewed.
"We're in the cleanup mode now," the safety director said.
The pavilion was once the clubhouse at Walnut Run Golf Course, but was donated and moved to the park.
