Wharmby's Thomas captures first victory



Newell pounded Roth Bros. while other games were postponed.
STRUTHERS -- John Thomas went six innings for his first win of the season in four decisions, leading Wharmby Sports to a 6-1 win over Dave Sugar Excavating in a Class B League game Monday at Cene Park.
Wharmby improved to 12-6.
Garen Ream had a triple while Todd Finn drove home two runs for Wharmby. Thomas had two strikeouts.
Dave Dobson had a single and a double for Dave Sugar (6-12).
Newell Sporting Goods 10, Roth Brothers 0
Josh Fyffe (1-1) had three hits, one a double, and tossed a five-hit shutout with five strikeouts for Newell (8-10). Ryan Morris added a triple and a double with three RBIs.
Eric Holtzman (0-3) got the loss despite allowing just one earned run for Roth (1-17), which committed five errors.
Other games postponed
The Astro Falcons and Youngstown Express game was suspended due to rain and the games between R & amp; J Trucking and Mink Financial and Rondinelli Tuxedo and Livi Steel were postponed.
Sunday
Mink scored four times in the top of the 12th inning to defeat Dave Sugar Excavating, 7-3.
Ed Deluca had three doubles while Lonnie McQueen and Corey Vukovic had two hits each for Mink. Vukovic (3-3) pitched the final 62/3 innings of scoreless relief with 11 strikeouts to pick up the win.
Sam Barker went the first four innings for Mink (7-10) and allowed one hit. Eric Pirtz had three hits for Sugar (6-11). Dave Diyorio pitched the first eight innings for Sugar, allowing three runs with eight strikeouts. He also had a pair of singles.
Notes
Mink Financial has played three extra inning games this season. One went 10 innings, one 11 and one 12. They are 1-2 in extra inning games.
