Wright-Patterson has new commander

DAYTON (AP) -- A former commander of a mission-support group for a tanker wing based in England took charge of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base on Friday.
"I am so honored and humbled to be standing before you as commander," Col. Colleen Ryan told hundreds of airmen, civilian workers and community leaders gathered inside a hangar just off the base runways. "Never in my wildest dreams did I picture myself in this scenario at this historic base."
Ryan is a graduate of the University of New Hampshire. She last served as commander of a mission-support group for a tanker wing at RAF Mildenhall.
Ryan replaces Col. Andrew Weaver, who is retiring after serving as commander for two years.
Wright-Patterson grew up in a field where the Wright brothers did pioneering work in aviation.
It is the largest single-site employer in Ohio, with more than 22,000 military and civilian workers and an annual payroll of more than $1 billion.
