Mystics 88, Liberty 70
WASHINGTON -- Alana Beard scored 26 points, including 10 straight to open the fourth quarter as Washington defeated New York. Nikki Teasley added a career-high 26 for Washington and shot 6-for-10 from 3-point range. Beard also had a season-high seven rebounds and four assists as the Mystics (7-3) won their third consecutive game and improved to 6-0 at home. Shameka Christon led New York with 16 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter. But Washington outscored the Liberty 25-13 in the final period. Becky Hammon added 14 points in the Liberty's third straight loss.
Monarchs 76, Storm 74
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Kara Lawson scored 16 points and Erin Buescher added 14 to help Sacramento rally for a victory over Seattle. Betty Lennox scored a season-high 23 points for Seattle (6-6), which had its two-game winning streak snapped. Lauren Jackson added 17 points and nine rebounds, and Barbara Turner had 14 points. The Monarchs controlled Sue Bird, who had five points, four assists and six of the Storms 23 turnovers. Ticha Penicheiro had 12 points for the Monarchs (5-4), who had lost three of their previous four games. Fouled on a 3-point attempt, Turner made all three free throws to pull Seattle to 75-73 with 24.2 seconds left. Following a free throw by the Monarchs' Nicole Powell, Turner made one of two free throws with 1.2 seconds left.
