Painesville couple faces 14 charges, accused of bomb plot

PAINESVILLE, Ohio (AP) -- A couple accused of plotting to bomb the homes of a judge, mayor and police chief had picked out a fourth possible target and did not care if the explosions killed children, according to allegations found in court documents.
Joseph Sands, 40, and his girlfriend Dawn Holin, 34, were indicted Friday by a Lake County grand jury on 14 state charges, including conspiracy to murder and aggravated arson.
The couple, who remain in federal custody, were charged in May in U.S. District Court in Cleveland with possession of firearms and explosives.
Federal officials say the alleged plot was retaliation for a minor tax evasion case involving a small auto repair business the couple owned in North Perry, about 35 miles northeast of Cleveland.
An informant told authorities that Sands and Holin were out for street justice and did not care if children were killed when their pipe bombs exploded, according to affidavits filed in the case.
