Officials will explore the feasibility of lodge

A feasibility study will look at a number of unanswered questions.
CORTLAND -- It will take about two to three months to complete a study to determine whether a lodge at Mosquito Lake is feasible.
The timetable was presented during a meeting Friday attended by Susan Miller, project manager with Gateway Consultants Group Inc. of Cleveland.
Gateway was hired by Trumbull 100 on behalf of a coalition of government and civic groups to explore the possibility of developing a lodge or other hospitality facility at the lake.
Mike Wilson, director of the Trumbull County Soil and Water Conservation District, said Miller intends to conduct public meetings in the fall to hear from those in favor and opposed to a proposal.
In the meantime, Miller will be talking with individuals and groups to solicit their opinions.
Unanswered questions
Wilson said a lot of questions remain unanswered such as: Should the facility be tied to the county fairgrounds? Will it have a golf course? Where will it be located? Should it be on waterfront property?
The $85,000 study will look at such items as lodging occupancy, business climate, potential for business meetings, clientele, competition among existing lodges, access to water and sewer and marketing.
Atty. William Letson of Trumbull 100 has said he believes a lodge could attract visitors from as far away as Pittsburgh, Cleveland and Columbus.
