Siblings: He is one of 10 children. The other are deceased.
Background: In 1942 at the age of 36, he was the first of four Skowron brothers to enter the military during World War II. He was a member of the 56th Signal Battalion and participated in landings in France and fought throughout Europe, including the Battle of the Bulge.
Married: The former Marie Kluko while stationed in Czechoslovakia. They have been married 60 years. Together they farmed 65-acres where they raised Black Angus cattle until 12 years ago. They sold the farm about eight years ago, and live in Salem.
Relatives: There are 27 nieces and nephews in the family..
Celebration: Friends and family are invited to an open house to be held from 1:30 to 4 p.m. June 25 in the Red Room at the Salem World War Memorial Building, 785 E. State St., Salem.
