Class offered for those filing for bankruptcy



NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Educators for Penn State Cooperative Extension in Lawrence County are offering a two-hour mandatory class to assist county residents filing for debt relief under the Bankruptcy Abuse Protection and Consumer Protection Act.
The act, a federal bankruptcy law that became effective in October 2005, requires anyone filing for Chapters 7 or 13 bankruptcies to complete a class before the discharge of their debts is final.
The personal financial management class, Four Steps to a Secure Financial Future, is designed to teach those emerging from bankruptcy how to handle their finances and avoid future problems. The class will be from 6 to 8 p.m. June 29 at the county extension office, 430 Court St. Future classes are planned for July 27 and Aug. 23.
The cost of the class is $40 per person or $50 per married couple. Scholarships are available for those who cannot pay. To register, call the Lawrence County Extension Office at (724) 654-8370.
