Schedules needed
The Vindicator sports department is seeking fall sports schedules for the following schools: Chaney, Wilson, Youngstown Christian, Ursuline, Warren Harding, Boardman, Fitch, Campbell, Niles, Poland, Struthers, Jackson Milton, Lowellville, McDonald, Sebring, South Range, Springfield, Western Reserve, Brookfield, Champion, Hubbard, LaBrae, Lakeview, Newton Falls, Columbiana, East Palestine, Leetonia, Lisbon, Southern, United, Badger, Mathews, Southington, Beaver Local, East Liverpool, Wellsville, Alliance, Southeast, Farrell, Grove City, Hickory, Kennedy Christian, Laurel, Mercer, Mohawk, New Castle, Neshannock, Reynolds, Sharon, Sharpsville, Shenango, Union, Wilmington and West Middlesex. All-star softball
VIENNA -- The Trumbull County All-Stars defeated Mahoning County 6-3 and 3-1 in a doubleheader softball game on Thursday at the Thunderplex.
In the first game, Jaclyn Carpenter (Champion) had three hits and scored twice, while Lea Gordon (LaBrae) had two hits.
Kim Calderwood (LaBrae), Desiree Sibera (Howland) and Hillary Beachy (Champion) each added a hit. Aaron Armstrong (Niles) gave up four hits, striking out one and walking two, to get the win, while Carpenter struck out two in relief.
Laura McGivern (Canfield) had two hits and a walk, scoring twice, for Mahoning. Christy Warren (Springfield) tripled and Ashley Fagnano (Springfield) added a single.
In the second game, Carpenter struck out five, giving up three hits and a walk to earn the win. Armstrong closed it out.
Courtney Vitullo (McDonald) had two hits, a walk and scored twice for Trumbull, while Amber Sypert (Maplewood) and Angela DeChristofaro (Warren JFK) each added a single and scored a run.
For Mahoning, Olivia Myers (Western Reserve) singled and Vannessa Dickson (Ursuline) singled and scored. Kara Warren (Fitch) also singled.
Golf outing
BAZETTA -- Trumbull Mobile Meals will have a golf outing June 28, at Tamer Win Golf Course on state Route 46. Registration is at 10 a.m. with tee times starting at 11 a.m. with snacks, lunch and dinner. For information, call (330) 394-2538.
Junior golf
WILLOUGHBY -- Hilary Ray of Warren shot a 93 to finish second in the girls 16-19 age group in the North Coast Junior Tour golf tournament at the Lost Nation Golf Course Tuesday.
Allyson Burak of Willoughy placed first with a 92.
In the boys 12-13 division, Girard's Boo Timko placed second after shooting a 79, four strokes behind the winner, Zac Bihler of Erie, Pa.
Struthers graduateschoose Allegheny
MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Struthers High graduates Jennifer and Jeannette McLaughlin will play volleyball at Allegheny College.
Jennifer, a middle, was named second team All-Metro Athletic Conference and second-team all-district as a senior. She plans to study physical therapy, while minoring in art.
Jeannette, an outside hitter, was named first team All-MAC and first team all-district in 2005. She will be pursuing a degree in English.
Class B
STRUTHERS -- Andy Geibel (3-0) struck out five in five-plus innings to help lead Newell Sporting Goods to a 9-3 victory over Wharmby Sports in a Class B game on Wednesday at Cene Park.
Karl Swanson, Jarryd Summers and Ryan Morris had two hits each for Newell (5-9), which has won four of five.
John Thomas, Ross Voicey, and Mike Kampfer had two hits each for Wharmby (8-6).
REGION
Indians moves
NEW YORK -- The Cleveland Indians placed outfielder Casey Blake on the disabled list Thursday with a strained right oblique muscle.
Blake, hitting .304 with 10 home runs and 36 runs batted in, apparently hurt himself in batting practice Wednesday night. He returned to Cleveland to have an MRI exam.
