ON THE SIDE. . .
This and that from the world of Valley politics.
VALLEY CONNECTION: Chris Paulitz of Hubbard is coming home -- sort of.
U.S. Sen. George V. Voinovich, an Ohio Republican, hired Paulitz, 30, as senior adviser and communications director.
Paulitz got his start in politics in 1998 working for Fight to Advance Our Nation's Sports, an organization run by ultra-liberal Ralph Nader that attempted to address the concerns of sports fans.
Paulitz served as a press aide in 1999 to a Republican congressman, and worked as a deputy press secretary for the Republican National Committee in 2000, including 37 days in Florida in November and December of that year organizing pro-President Bush rallies during that state's presidential recount.
Paulitz spent 2001 as special assistant to the administrator and a press spokesman for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. He spent two years as spokesman for a Florida congressman, and landed a press secretary job in December 2003 with the National Republican Congressional Committee.
A year later, U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison of Texas hired Paulitz as her communications director.
Paulitz started last week with Voinovich heading the senator's communications staff and advising him on policy matters.
